AIN extends Rs 45-million medical assistance package to Health Ministry
The Association of International NGOs in Nepal (AIN) has handed over a medical assistance package worth Rs 45.3 million to the Ministry of Health and Population, to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The assistance, a part of a joint procurement initiation involving 16 organisations under the AIN, was coordinated by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen, and in collaboration with Social Welfare Council, the association said in a statement.
Earlier last month, the AIN had called on its members to contribute to the joint procurement initiative.
According to the statement, 15 INGOs ActionAid, ADRA Nepal, CARE Nepal, FAIRMED, Good Neighbors International Nepal, INF Nepal, Ipas Nepal, Lutheran World Federation, MountainChild, OneWorld Health, Oxfam, Plan International, Practical Action, UMN, WaterAid along with NGO Nyaya Health Nepal responding with financial contributions.
The medical assistance package included personal protective equipment (PPE) sets; safe delivery kits; infrared thermometers; water and air-proof aprons; surgical sterile globes and utility globes; KN95 masks and surgical masks; surgical goggles, among other medical, sanitization and disinfectant items, to cater mainly the medial workers in frontline response, the statement said.
Apart from this joint assistance to the Health Ministry, the latest AIN survey suggests that 65 out of 129 members under the umbrella are actively engaged in Covid-19 preparedness and response.
“So far, at least Rs 2 billion has been released to prevent, contain and combat Covid-19 as well as to support livelihood and build economic resilience,” the statement read. “Overall INGOs’ contribution is being assessed by AIN through a survey and the survey results will be made public soon.”
