Writ against poor quarantine measures

A writ petition has been filed at Jumla bench of Surkhet High Court on Sunday, naming Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Municipalities and Rural Municipalities as defendants.

It was stated in the petition that the quarantines, built in the district for those returning from India and third countries, did not meet the basic standards. It reads that the locally constructed quarantines, owing to a threat of deadly Covid-19 outbreak, lack even the basic facilities and standards.

Advocate Padam Bahadur Shahi filed the petition, seeking appropriate court orders to manage the quarantines.

Advocate Shahi said afterwards that he was compelled to file the writ after receiving a huge number of complaints from locals and people living in quarantines.

He added that the public complaint that all new entrants were not sent to quarantines, only poor and powerless were forced to stay in quarantines while others were escaping it.
