Govt to tighten security in border areas

The government has deployed Nepal Army personnel for the security of sensitive sectors, sending the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel to man the bordering areas.

The Home Ministry made the decision on Sunday to send Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel, stationed in prison houses, development projects and other sensitive areas, to the border and deploy the NA personnel to those places. The meeting also decided to take stern action against those entering Nepal in a clandestine manner.

Similarly, it was also decided to hold talks with the Indian government on border security and safety of Nepali migrants in India.

On the occasion, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa noting that Covid-19 infection was spreading towards South Asia through China, Europe and the United States and stressed the need to observe special precautions against it.

He instructed the security agencies to step up surveillance in the bordering areas and increase patrol at night. The minister also directed the security agencies to discourage the illegal entries of the people into Nepal from border points by forming a volunteering committee at the community level.

The ministry has initiated the process for the management of necessary means and resources for the purpose. Home secretary, foreign secretary, representatives of Health Ministry, chiefs of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department and Lieutenant General of Nepal Army, among others, were present at the meeting.

The ministry had increased the number of Armed Police Force to 22,500 from 14,000 in the districts that share borders with India.
